News Corp Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch on Thursday sent out invitations to the tech press--including Macworld--for the official launch of The Daily, its long-rumored iPad newspaper. The event, scheduled for February 2 at New York City's Guggenheim Museum, will also feature an appearance from Apple Vice President of Internet Services Eddy Cue.
The Daily, whose release has supposedly been delayed several times, will cost $1 per week, delivering U.S.-focused news to subscribers' iPads every day. Apple's involvement with The Daily's launch is reportedly linked to a new iTunes subscription purchasing model, through which customers can be billed on a recurring basis, instead of requiring per-issue in-app purchases.
